Over the last few months, our team has been quite busy rolling out new features, making improvements to existing tools, and squashing bugs. Check out the details below!

New Tool: Mini-Family Tree Builder

This tool allows you to create a Mini-Family Tree that will contain the parents and grandparents of one of your uploaded DNA profiles. If you do not have a GEDCOM for a given DNA profile, this is a great way to get started using the GEDCOM + DNA matching tools on GEDmatch.

You can find the tool under the Family Trees menu once you've logged into GEDmatch:

Updated Relationship Probabilities

Last year we launched a Relationship Probability Calculator developed by Brit Nicholson. Brit has updated this tool to use data from a peer-reviewed source... a first for relationship probability tools! We have worked with Brit to update the data used in GEDmatch for the relationship probabilities shown in the standalone calculator as well as in the Tier 1 One-to-Many tool.

Improvements and Bug Fixes

Our team of developers has worked hard to improve the site and fix issues. Here's an overview of what's been done:

  • Triangulation, Segment Search, and “Are your parents related?” tools have both been enhanced to speed up displaying results

  • Ancestor Projects page is now split between multiple tabs, making it easier to view project information

  • Fixed issue where the downloadable Triangulation csv contained incorrect rows if name or aliases had a comma. Also improved messaging to user when no results are available to download.

  • Admixture calculators now have improved messaging to users when no oracle spreadsheets are available.

  • Made numerous GEDCOM updates, including:

    • Video now provided to the user after GEDCOM upload on how to correct Ancestry exported GEDcoms that have wife and husband records swapped if detected.

    • Made warnings for mismatched sex for parents or undefined sex for parents more visible in GEDCOM Upload tools and GEDCOM error check tool.

    • Added link to a video if there are undefined sexes for parents in GEDCOM Upload tools and GEDCOM error check tool.
